Ceremony
Kambo is given in a ceremonial setting. I use dimmed lighting and candles, music and singing, rattles, sage, and other tools to support the journey. I let the kambo and your own Self be your teachers as much as possible, so that the journey can be an empowering one, but will be there with support and encouragement when needed.
For anyone coming to ceremony I offer a pre-treatment talk to look at what issues are most present for you at the time and what you're hoping to receive from the medicine. This can be in person on the day, or on the phone in the days beforehand. I find this really helps to open up the way for the kambo process.
After ceremony there will be some light food and a chance to talk about the experience.
The Kambo Process
The secretion is applied to the skin, after removing the topmost layer with a quick touch from a heated stick. The effects are felt quickly afterwards and usually last around 20-40 minutes.
Kambo is a purgative and can open up profound internal processes - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Purging usually takes the form of vomiting, but other forms of physical and emotional release such as crying and shaking may also be part of the process. A bucket, tissues and easy access to a toilet are provided.
In indigenous cultures purging is seen as cleansing and beneficial, and most people experience a feeling of clarity and release after Kambo.
